Workshop "Taking the Lead - Team Building and Leadership Competencies in Academia"

We would like to draw your attention to a workshop in English language which might be of interest for you. As part of Heidelberg University’s internal advanced training program, the workshop is offered by the Department "Personnel Development and Dual Career Service" and is therefore free of charge for University staff. This workshop is particularly aimed at strengthening leadership skills for young researchers.


Target group:

Professors, junior professors, junior research group leaders and postdoctoral researchers with initial experience in leadership and/or coordination of projects.


Workshop goals:

Scientists with initial experience in leadership and/or project coordination will have the opportunity to strengthen their personal professional leadership competencies within a group of other professionals. The training will enhance the scientists' use of their personal resources; it will support in gaining certainty in leadership issues and will create space to develop individual strategies to meet current challenges. This workshop series consists of five successive modules. Each module will focus on a different key aspect of leadership and team building. Impulses will be given by practice-oriented training contents, group coaching, supervised collegial consultation and peer learning.



Module I: Taking the lead; Identifying tasks and responsibilities as a team leader

Module II: Developing productive work relationships

Module III: Leading peer colleagues; Mastering lateral leadership

Module IV: Dealing with conflicts

Module V: Developing a team
